Cutting boards if treated properly can last a life time, here is a simple guide on how to properly take care and ensure the extended lifespan of your cutting boards.
Please use a damp cloth with warm water to wash off any external debris
When wiping the cutting board follow the direction of the grain, to ensure a coherent cleansing of the board.
DO Not leave the cutting board in a severely dry environment after cleaning. the sudden shift can lead to the board warping or cracking.
Cutting boards are bound to show wear and tear over time, but to eliminate the possibility of replacing your cutting board, we highly recommend refinishing the board yourself. There are plenty of methods on how you can finish a cutting board, so we highly recommend doing some research and choosing a method that best fits your needs.
Here is a simple guide that we recommend for our cutting boards:
If you begin to see scratches from constant use, gently sand with 120 grit sand paper until the scratches are no longer visible.
After that, spray the board with water and let it dry completely. Once it has dried, go over the board once more with 220 grit sand paper.
Once the board has a smooth and soft finish, apply a food safe finishing oil that can be purchased from hardware stores, or online.
Apply the finish to all sides of the board and depending on the kind of finish you may need one or more coats.
After completing all of this, your cutting board should be good as new. However, you can still go a step further by applying a cutting board wax that can be either homemade, our bought at major retailers.
